Is it illegal to sell counterfit goods on a website, when it states they (the products) are replicas? As it is not illegal for companies in China to produce these goods. Surely it is only illegal when customers are purchasing goods under false pretences, ie the retailer stating they are genuine?

It's strictly illegal because the owner of the registered trade mark or copyright won't receive any payment for the use of their logo or design:
