Yes Sunday in the USA ...waiting for a seat for breakfast ...in waiting area being given coffee and toast and a paper to read while I waited for 15 mins for a table to become free. Chain restaurant as well (IHOP).

Tuesday in England ....On entering Little Chef ....
Open door walk towards till and sign that says wait to be seated ...before my mouth can open ....this dragon faced waitress ..barking ....
"It's 30 minutes wait for a table ...we have no staff ...wait if you want !!!" ...she then turns back to me and walks away ...

Yep, even in the cheapest places, like ponderosa, dennys etc, so polite, and free refills on all soft drinks and coffees, when we had to wait for take away in ponderosa, they gave us free drinks, bag of chicken wings and big bag of fresh hot rolls.

What is the name of the reastuarant that serves only seafood and snow crab especially.
My Hubby ate so much he nearly threw up next day. He did enjoy it at the time though.

Totally agree on the root beer. When I visit America I don't drink much else! I do remember when McDonalds sold it and was devastated when they stopped. I think we should start a petition to the big supermarkets to start stocking it. Mug is my favourite closely follwed by A&W.

I believe you when you say things are cheaper here, but it sure does not seem like it. A gallon of gas is $4.39 for the lowest grade. A gallon of milk is $4.00+. Mind you, I am in New York, so it might be slightly higher than US average. I am spending over $1000 per month for oil heat for my house. Thankfully spring is here and I won't need another delivery until the fall. If i did not have a vacation planned already, I would work Summer School to save for winter bills. (before you say skip holiday, I am using some money mom left me as a treat. No holiday for 5 years.)

Do you not have chain restaurants there then?? Are you missing the joys of Olive Garden, TGIF, and Chili's? Obh you poor poor people.

The standard of living....and the salaries-certainly higher than here......as far as petrol,ET...yours is still way cheaper than ours-we are around $8.00 per gallon.....sometimes I really miss home!!
