kitchen/garden ratio

I live in an area with lots of young families. I would like to extend my kitchen which is currently just a kitchenette squeezed between the back of the stairs and the dining room (in a 3 bed-semi). But I know of someone who extended and installed a to-die-for kitchen, however now they can't sell because they have sacrificed too large a slice of the garden to build this kitchen. So my question is, where the garden is about 65 feet long, how far out could we go to maintain a good kitchen/garden ratio?

I think you could safely extend out by 15 feet, (planning permission being granted). This would leave you with a 50 foot garden, which compared to modern day house/gardens, would make it your average size. Hope this helps .
