Monitor has Died!
My computer has been stored for a couple of weeks whilst decorating etc. Put it back together yesterday and the monitor light came on but there was a buzzing sound also. Monitor never came on and eventually the light went out. Is it likely that the monitor has had it, or would it be just the adaptor? Can anyone advise? Many thanks

Is the cable connected properly at both ends?
Have you tried the computer with another monitor?
Have you tried the monitor with another adaptor?
Have you tried the monitor with another computer?
Adaptors can cr@p out but they are unlikely to.
I do not like hearing a buzzing sound coming from an electrical appliance. Please ensure you are using a properly fused circuit for your own safety.

just to add to what wildwood said .... it's bust.....
your dilemma is .... it could be fixable .... just be a loose connector.
however
if it's CRT .... don't even think of opening it unless you are certain you know what's in there ... lots of volts trying to get out ... ... 240 v will jump 1/16"
there are at least 50,000 in the box ... in the right (wrong!!!) conditions ... humid atmos ... that's the best part of a foot.
my advice is DON'T
if it's lcd ... they tend to be a bit of a pig to get back together .... but as long as it's unplugged ... reasonably safe
generally either way ... unless you know what you are doing (or if LCD - don't care if you bust it more ) it's best left to

Well my monitor failed and I called someone out to see if that was the problem rather than assume and rush out and buy a new one when the pc may have been at fault.
I was charged a ridiculous amount of money for a guy to come and give the monitor a bit of a shake and say it was knackered.
But he did say I could open it up myself and see if anything was loose.
Now I am a plug it in and press buttons kind of person but I unplugged, unscrewed the back and even I could see what was loose. So I pushed all the connections (not that many) home, screwed the back on and .... it worked.
And still does. I am using it now.
