Mostly paid cash for everything until retirement in 1988.
As a home service insurance agent who paid himself from collections always had cash available.
First chequebook in 1992, now used less and less, many
places now do not accept cheques.
Credit cards are fine if total amount paid monthly. Can be
arranged as a direct debit, saving memory and postage.

I do keep my receipts, I just preferred my cheque book. Anyway a friend of mine once swiped her card in Asda and it took the payment twice out of her account. She didn't notice till a couple of days later when she went to withdraw money and the balance didn't add up!! She had to wait weeks to get it back.
Sandra saying you know where you are with cash, that's the very reason I don't have a debit card, I would be forgetting what I'd swiped and end up with no money half way through the month - I found it easy to spend when I wasn't handing over cash.
Credit cards can be the most expensive way of getting credit, particularly if you don't pay the balance every month and I *know* I wouldn't!

As I live in a village with not many shops and can't get about easily I wouldn't be without my debit card for shopping online. I do use cash if going to shops though after one incident where I tried to use my card at the till and the machine wouldn't accept it,I had to put all my shopping back whilst the other customers and the checkout girl sniggered at me.lol
I prefer using my debit card as my bill is itemised and recorded unlike going to the cashpoint and taking 20 quid out, spending 8 of it and wasting the rest, if I used my card it would only take the 8 pounds!
I personally cant be doing with cheques or cash, I find it really annoying if somewhere doesnt take debit cards!!
I havent got any credit cards, I think they are a waste of time

Hi dustypuss, and everyone else! How are you all this morning?
I don't like cheques, but I got my first cheque book 3 years ago, and I suppose it comes in handy on the very rare occasion that something needs paying from a distance. I have a debit card with my account, but much prefer to use cash, that way I can keep up! And it hurts me more to hand cash over, so I don't spend as much!!
