Birthday CD

I want to make a CD containing all the no.1 records on a certain day. I have the list of these songs but no idea where to go to download them.

I have no copies of the early ones, the 'middle' ones I have, in the main, but on vinyl and the more recent ones I may have on CD's anyway.

I have never down-loaded music and would prefer a secure site where I can pay, if necessary, for the tunes.

Which are the ones that a complete numpty novice can use with ease ?

Limewire is free... unlike iTunes...

Limewire sometimes has viruses and is illegal, jackthehat is willing to pay for the songs, Im afraid I dont know of any sites tho.

I wanted to avoid sites like Limewire as I believe it has viruses, etc. and there is some debate as to its lawfulness.

At the risk of causing snorts of derision.........I discounted i-tunes because I don't possess any sort of MP3/4 i-pod type thingy...........is that really as stupid as I fear ? :o)

Jack, you can still use iTunes even if you don't have an iPod.

When you download the songs form iTunes, it will be stored somewhere in your PC, usually the C:\ unless you've specifically asked it to go somewhere else, like youe external hard drive.

You can burn the tunes on to a CD from there BUT you have to be careful that the person you are gifting it to has the ability to play MP3's on their CD player. There is a way to convert the music, but I'm not sure how but I will find out for you.

Alternatively, of you know the person you are gifting it to has an MP3 player, you could pop the tunes on a USB stick and they can take it from there to put on their own MP3 player?

I want to create a music CD. It's to be background music at a birthday party. I thought that a 50 year trawl through the charts would satisfy everyone. The older grumblies will be able to enjoy the tunes from 'when they made proper music', we'll be able to enjoy the glam rock and the youngsters can enjoy the last bit............:o)

LOL, that's a great idea....and us young ones like some oldy music too, we just don't let on because then we're forced to dance with our father and THAT is embarrassing ;)

I'm just thankful that MY Dads rock and roll tendecies will be thwarted, because those years when he was in his pomp will be represented by ballads...........so no danger of having to stop him dragging reluctant women up to jive ............lol

I know that the sound system I can use on the night is also suitable for being a karaoke player.............(I shall not be bringing that fact to the attention of ANY guests :o))

You do not need a playing device to use iTunes.

Download the free software and install. Purchase your records. In iTunes create a playlist and drop your birthday tunes into it. Insert a blank CD into your computer and press burn playlist from the iTunes window.
