Thanks for the link, Rapparee! This one looks interesting, although I must confess that I have never done one with misprinted definitions. I have loked at the comments on the Answer Bank and agree that 1d is an ingenious giveaway. I do not yet see trick in the title, so do not understand "waterloo", but I am sure I will make some headway with some help from you by way of clues/hints for the following:

16a: A????
20a: S??A???
25a: ???E?
33a: ???L?????
38a: ???O??
40a:???????U?????Y ( provided my Y is good from 32d:EMBRYO?)
42a: ?????O
30a:??????E ( Lawrece and Arabia? What's the catch?)

3d: L????
4d: S?????
12d: ????P??
6d:??????E
21d: ?T?????

All you help will be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hello again, Lezapping.
There have been several hints about puzzle in a couple of threads already. One posting explained the significance of the title.
In 30a the reference is to TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and the reference is indicating that TE starts the answer with say = STATE. Now can you work out the misprint in the clue?

32d EMBRYO is correct and can you spot the misprint in that clue?

40a is an anagram of Yell giant piece. Go here to work it out

Many thanks, Rapparee, for your invaluable help here! I should be able to move on faster now. And yes, I see the misprint in 30a. In fact, I had it all along and somehow the brain kept thinking intestate...I believe I see the misprint in 32d as fetes. Thanks also for the Chambers Word Wizard...this is really an invaluable tool! Thanks again! Cheers!
