He was paralised and the had to have a leg amputated my only relief was once a week going to the supermarket and even then I had to watch the clock. One by one our friends stopped visiting and after he was put to bed at night I would sit and cry. I could talk forever about what happened during those 6 years but when he died all though I was upset I cannot tell you the pure relief I felt. I do not want anyone to come on here now and slag me off because no one was there in the middle of the night EVERY NIGHT when I didn't sleep because he was in so much pain. God Bless you and I only hope that you get better help than I did, but being a full time carer is sometimes too much to bear,
No unless you are in this situation people do not understand. When you are caring for someone it takes over your life. Your own life becomes uninportant to the outside world, its alright saying get help from Social Services but that help is very limited and also the person you are caring for can be very unco operative (sorry sp) my husband was offered 1 day a week at a centre but he refused to go, he wanted me on call all the time because believe it or not some people with disabilities can be very selfish. During his illness I had to go into hospital for and operation but all he could think about was his own welfare and refused all help from anyone, it was very difficult.
Puss, everything you said is so true. That experience is a torture; but, when it's loved ones you just HAVE to do it.
My mum went through the same with my dad, and both of his legs were amputated due to diabetes. He wore pampers, couldn't visit the loo. To put him under the shower was a task in itself. Like you, she did it for many years also. People who take on such tasks are angels.
