Married 20 yrs - hes getting divorced - where do I stand?
4 Answers
My partner was married to his ex for 20 yrs and in that time put into a pension as he is self employed. They are currently carrying out a long awaited divorce (privately).
Does she have a stake on his pension when he becomes of that age if they dont mention anything financial in his divorce and if so, where do I stand when we get married!!
Arrrggghhhhhh

This is payable as a lump cash sum...the rest is his.On that basis,I would imagine your partner 's wife would be entitled to a share-payable now. I don't believe this is automatic, but is worked into the final settlement.
Does the same thing work the other way around - if they both put into a pension does she just get her own or do both of them have entitlement to each others!!
I wouldnt expect to get anything out of any previous payments prior to living with me but if he continues to pay into a pension for the next 20 yrs then shouldnt I be allowed part of that and she is allowed nothing ... I have all this financial stuff.
Just re-read my comments, etc - hope noone thinks Im trying to find out what Im entitled to before I leave him .. Im with him for life.
