Okaaaayyyy - am just about to show my utter ignorance here - what is html?

If you were to read all of the previous answers to this same question' you'd know it means 'No Bull Sh!t Please' !!!

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language

It actually means 'Non-Breaking Space' and is a way of having or 'spaces' in fields that do not cause programs that 'do things' when they detect a space in a field to terminate.

In computery language (e.g. when designing a website) people use HTML codes to lay out the text.  For example, if people want to put a word in bold, like this:

one two three

you would need to type

one <B>two</B> three

and the computer understands the instructions more quickly.  Nowadays we humans have easier things to make things bold, or underlined, or in colour, but when a computer is reading a load of instructions to put a web-page onto a computer-screen, it works more quickly with HTML stuff.
