When I see lists of people who played Dr Who why is it that Peter Cushing is never in it? Joe McCann is included and he only played the part once. SO why not Peter.

Because he was in the films, which had nothing to do with the TV series. Aside from them having nothing to do with the BBC, Peter Cushing played the same part in the films as William Hartnell did, and so technically was not a doctor on his own.
I dont know, maybe because it was a one off film and was also not called Dr Who, (Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D.)
: (
Gizmo it was a TWO off, and the first film was called doctor who and the daleks.

Think it was Paul McGann but I agree Peter should be included
Postdog is correct! Also in the films The character is Doctor who, a human who invented the TARDIS . In the BBC series the character is The Doctor a Timelord from the planet Gallifrey. :-D

I didn't realise the films were that different. What came first, the films or the movies?
I thought that he should be included because to me he was a different DR.
I think Casino Royal was a very different Bond Movie compared to the others but David Niven is always included in the list of Bonds.
I think Peter should be included in the list Because the Films are still called Dr Who wether they are made by the Beeb or not.
The TV series came first, in 1963. The films were made later to cash in on the popularity of the Daleks, and were in effect big-budget "cover versions" of the earlier TV stories.

Don't forget that Richard E Grant also played the Doctor, not once but twice.
Question Author
Did he!! When was that?
Richard E grant Played The doctor in a BBC Webcast Called Scream Of The Shalka it was an animation which was also released as a paper back book just before the show returned to television with Christopher Eccleston. :-D

So all together, in order theres......
William Hartnal
Peter Cushing
Patrick Troughton
John Pertwee (my personal fave)
Tom Baker
Peter Davidson
Colin Baker
Sylvester Mccoy
Joe magann
Richard E Grant
Chrisopher Eccleston
David Tennant

Is that right or have I missed any one. Apologies for any spelling mistakes.
It was Paul McGann, not Joe, but your list is correct. Wonder who will be next? ( I think it should be Damian Lewis )
Question Author
Ah right ty for that.
I heard it was that Irish guy who recently did another version of Dr Jeckle and Mr Hyde. Can't ever remember his name.
Do you mean John Hannah (who's Scottish)?
James Nesbitt was the lead in Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

What about Richard Hurndall? Who played the first doctor in the story The Five Doctors, because William Hartnell died in 1975, and Hurndall bore a passing resemblance to Hartnell. imdb.com lists PAUL McGann and up to David Tennant as the 10th Doctor, but Peter Cushing is listed as being the inventor of the T.A.R.D.I.S. Both Dr. Who and the Daleks and Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. are based on the Doctor Who stories.

Or, is that complicating thins too much.
Question Author
Ty, James Nesbitt was the name I was looking for. He is Irish or at least he sounds like it.
No. Certainly no complication there. Thats was the original Q. But seeing as the question "Who's next," has come up, what does every one else suggest.

I think it would be fun if they asked Sean Pertwee to give it a crack. He would be rather good I think.
only got involved with doctor who after billy piper got a part

lol
