Got me puppy last thursday,he is lush,he called dexter now not clint. He sleeps in his crate,the kids love him,hes going outside to go to the toilet (well 3 out of 5 times). he wines a bit at night,so i take him out at 1 am then 6 am,he sleeps loads, like last night he slept all evening and woke up at 11pm just as i was going a bed,was not to be, i ended up going to bed at 1.15am.but hes just gone a sleep now after a full on play with the cat,so im hoping he will sleep through! THanks to lankeela for all the advice. I expect i,ll be back for more!

I'm glad you love him so much, but he is starting to be the boss and decide who does what and when they do it already. He should fit in with you, not the other way round. I know it sounds mean, but please don't let him take control so early or you will have to obey his commands for another 14/16 years-ish. He will fit in with you if you're firm and he will be just as happy. No, in fact, he will be MORE happy with you guiding him rather than if he has to take control. Dogs aren't used to ruling the world, however small their world is.

So glad you took advice from people who have been there, done that! Partly agree with gallapunk, I would wake him up to play a bit earlier in the evening, then let him out for a wee and leave him to settle for the night. If he is downstairs, leave a radio on low, so he can hear a voice. Try to ignore the whining, and it should stop if he is tired and want to sleep.
Good for you for getting up to let him out early, that is half the battle.

hes been awake since 4 ******* and has just crashed out so thats better again.
Theres is a massive down side,my 7 year old son seems so be allergic to him. every time he smooths him he comes out in hives,he now looks like he,s got excema,he sneezes whenever dext walks into the room. oh not good.If he doesnt touch him hes fine but how do you tell a 7 year old boy not to smooth or go near a puppy. oh deary me,not happy atall atall.

How is your son now?

If he is still reacting to your pup it might be an idea to put a new question about that on here - I am sure there will be some dog owners on here have experience of allergy.

I hope things have settled down, it is a worry when children are allergic to pets.

Recently had a discussion on another group about people being allergic to dogs. It seems there are no logical reasons, some are allergic to particular breeds, some to certain dogs, but not others. It is a misconception that people are allergic to dog hair, it is the dander that comes off the skin. Make sure the puppy is well groomed and if you can get him used to being hoovered that will help. Bath him with a gentle puppy shampoo (not too often) and keep his bedding clean and change often. (Not saying you won't do all that, but some people would just not think to do it). Don't let him sleep on the settee or a chair where the boy plays, and don't let him sleep on the bed. Make sure he has a bed of his own and you may need to confine him to an area so that you can control where and when he plays with your son. Now for the nasty question, are you certain he has not got fleas or mites? Some people are more susceptible to being bitten than others. Hope this soon sorts itself out.

He isnt to bad. If he picks him up which we have told him not to now,he,s ok,if dext licks him he washes his hand straight away. cos we have realised that if the dog licks him that wot brings him out in hives within 5 miutes,but if he stays away from the dog 4 5 minutes the rash quickly goes away. We have bought a dyson animal which gets rid of all the hair and dander. the dog is not allowed in the bedrooms (we agreed this from the start anyway). and we also are not letting him on the settee,which i never wanted anyway do to the size of him when hes fully grown. My son is rather chesty since getting dexter so a trip to the docs is on the cards. and his hands are really dyy and red but i think thats me telling me to wash his hands after playing with the dog. even my hands are red raw due to over washing them,due to cleaning up after the little pup. anyway the pup is fine,hes having the odd acident but generally going outside for his business,no more wimpering in the night,he goes to bed at 10 and wakes when we wake! how mint! oh and we are also getting a couple of those purifying machine things thats meant to help with allergies. will keep you posted,,thanks
