Between lytham and london

I and my husband will be moving to UK soon. My husband has got a job in Lytham and me in London. Is it possible to find a place in between the two, so that we can travel everyday to work and home?

Crikey, thats quite a distance apart!

By my calculations, Birmingham is somewhere pretty much between the two. According to Mapquest, Birmingham to Lytham is 127.2 miles and will take 1hr 57mins. Birmingham to London is 118 miles and 2hrs 10 mins. Obviously these are by road so a train wouldn't take that long.

From people I know it is usually better for one to do most of the travelling.
Moving in the middle means each person needs more than half the time one person would need for the whole distance.
Therefore a lot of time gets wasted.

I'd move near one city and then try and find a job there, too.

it's not easy to get to Lytham, have you checked to see if Blackpool airport do domestic flights to the London airports? it;'s only a few miles from Lytham and so with flights so cheap now it would be ideal;

Lytham is really easy to get to Dot,you drive up the M6 to the M55 and then exit at the Kirkham junction then take the A585 to Lytham.

yeah i know that, but on public transport it is train or nowt and you have to get thru Preston, I just think for commuting to London a plane journey makes sense, especially consoidering the chais you get north of the tickled trout for 10 weeks in the summer

I think flying to London would be one option but then there is also the holiday traffic to deal with once you get off the plane on the return journey,it's swings and roundabouts really isn't it. I think its a horrible way to have to live anyway,all that commuting means less time for each other :-(

You obviously don't know the UK well if you think this is possible.

Lytham? That's a few miles from Blackpool. What kind of person wants to work in Lytham? Most of the population of Lytham have been trying to leave for years. The last one out will turn off the lights. Don't go there it's awful. How do I know? I live there, just half way between Lytham and St.Annes. Tell your husband to join you and can I have his job in London.

London and Lytham are approximately 250 miles apart. To even think about living halfway between the two is mad. It would mean 4 hours a day travelling for both of you.

The average working day in the UK is 8 hours so that's 12 hours a day between leaving for work and returning home. Add another 8 hours that you'll be sleeping every night and that leaves you just 4 hours a day. Take off another hour and a half for getting ready for work in the morning and cooking a meal in the evening and you are left with just 2 and a half hours a day to do everything else.

Judging by your username you are Indian and, if I'm not mistaken, Asian food takes a lot of time to prepare, so you'll have even less time left each day. Who can live like that? You'll spend your life tired and miserable .

You really need to consider working nearer to eachother than London and Lytham or you just won't have any quality of life at all. The only realistic way of working that far apart is to live apart during the week. I hope you find a suitable solution.

Musicman,you are so wrong about people wanting to move out of Lytham! There are hundreds of new houses being built there at the moment to accomodate the people who are wanting to move there never mind those that already live there.Lytham is a lovely place (if a little on the expensive side) that is growing year by year.
You must live in the Ansdell/Fairhaven area if you are between Lytham and St.Annes so I understand why you might want to leave.
