Light My Fire was their first single - number 1 in the US in 1967. That first LP ('The Doors') is alright. Morrison died in 1971, so the last recording by the original group was LA Woman. The others dragged it out for a while before even they realised the spark was gone without their singer/ rfontman/ songwriter/ talisman.. Except... now they're reforming again with cult singer Ian Astbury taking over. "Jim is irreplaceable", he's quoted as saying... but he's going to do it anyway. D'oh! Ray Manzarek is 63 years old.
Their chart run in the uk lasted from August 67 till october 71 when morrison died and was only three songs strong (light my fire-49, hello i love you-15, riders on the storm-50) though they had more sucsess after this with lots of re-issues right upto 1991 light my fire run to number seven. they also had four hit albums in the uk 68's waiting for the sun 70's morrison hotel & absolutely live and 71's L.A. woman.
