Umm...you mean the hairstyle right? Wow, sounds funny coming from a English person, no offense.

Cornrows--I don't think their is a "history". I just think that it was a convenient "hairstyle" for the Africans.  I mean, their culture pretty much required that they have a carefree kind of style.  And let me tell ya, black, African, whateva you call it hair is NOT the easiest to care for. 

But that's just my opinion, not fact. Enjoy
