Making a Shared Folder Available on the Internet

Is it possible to have a folder on your computer and make it accessible on the Internet?

If so, how do you do it?

OK ... certainly interesting.

Here's the scenario. I work for a small business which has expanded so that there are now two buildings on opposite sides of the street.

In the old building there are various computers in a network with various shared folders which can be accessed from any of the computers. There is also a wireless network and shared printers.

In the new building across the street there are lots of laptops which have Internet access via a different wireless router, and a printer which can be used via the wireless network.

So the question is how to connect the two sides of the street in one network. One option would be to have a single wireless network, but that doesn't seem to work too well - sometimes you can connect to the wireless network on the other side of the road, sometimes you can't.

The second option would be to have our own network cable going across the street, but that doesn't seem very practical (digging up the street or having a cable between the top floors!).

The third option would be to do it via the Internet. Google Docs sounds like an option. What other ways are? It seems to me like it's just file sharing, because there's no need to send something to a printer in another building. But what about Access databases - I don't think you can do that with Google Docs.
