Getting around work firewall

Is there any software available that will let me get round the firewall at work.  I want to check eBay and heard about an anonymiser or something that makes your IP address invisible or different?

Unfortunately all requests to the internet will pass through the firewall. You are on an internal network so hiding your IP address will achieve nothing (IMO). Unless you can hack the friewall and allow ebay traffic through you are stuck. Have you tried http:\\66.135.192.41 rather than www.ebay.co.uk ?

Invisible IP addresses... I'd like to meet the man who coined that phrase.  There's something called spoofing, but you can't do it on Windoze.  Anyway, have a look here http://anonymouse.ws/anonwww.html

It might work, depends if your work use URL blocking aswell (ie, any web address containing ebay is banned).

At my old work you could avoid going through their URL blocking firewall (and logger) by just unchecking use a proxy server under internet connections. They obviously had it enabled that default traffic was allowed out, very stupid, but there you go :)

Otherwise, the IP spoofind sites etc should be blocked, as j2buttonsw says, try the IP as a number as they might well block it by words.

guys your all being really helpful...the cheeky monkeys have blocked the IP...gonna try the proxy stuff now....if u wanna bid for my xbox aswell that would be massively appreciated :)!

One word of warning: If the company you work for has blocked access to those sites, it's likely that your employment terms and conditions also prohibit you from accessing them.

It's also a very easy process to log network traffic. If you take active steps to bypass the firewall you could just find yourself out of a job. Be careful!

On that note...i think i should probably end my quest for unlawful access.  Thanks for all your help guys...i wanted to make some money before xmas, but id also like to have a job after!

sorry i'm being dense but i how do you find the number of the address rather than the words?

The way I get round it is to do a Google search for something like 'football cards' then click on the Ebay 'hit' that always comes back. Because it is not a direct link to Ebay you will be connected via Google and then once the connection is made you can use Ebay to your heart's content!!

undercovers : from a command prompt (start, run, type in command or cmd and hit return) type 'ping www.theaddress.com' and hit return.  You should get the address's dotted IP address from this.
