thanks guys, none of the numbers worked, and the sim is my own from my relic of a phone

You see where you typed that? Underneath it says post an answer. Click on it, type your answer, and submit.
Did you see my last reply to you snowdreamer, you would have entered a 4 digit code in your old phone when you switched it on. As you are using the same sim card it will be the same code you used to enter.
If you can't remember it you can get free pay as you go sims from all the major companies - ie www.freesim.o2.co.uk

cant remember my old number have just put a brand new o2 one in and got the same message.....
I believe the default sim lock for o2 sim cards is 0000

you could also try lookng at this - says default for a different samsung model is 00000000. If that doesn't work I'm afraid i'm out of ideas.
