I'm going on a touring Holiday Canada next week :-)

but what do you think about expected tipping
the tour operator has already placed two envelopes with our tickets.
one for the driver and one for the guide
expected tip $6 a day per person That 3 each a day
that a extra 42 on your holiday
I think its a cheek these people get a wage
if i want to tip i will give a tip i dont think that you should be told to
what do you think?

To me and anyone else used to the English way of tipping then yes.
However in the US and Canada its an expected thing.
In America because of our culture to tipping , we are considered bad tippers. This is why maybe the enevelopes have been provided.
In the US a standard tip is 15-20% of the bill.

Where in Canada are you going ?
I was last in Canada back in 2003.

You will like the Canadian way of life.
I would tip them at the end of the holiday ..
how can they justify $6 a day each from
a coach load of passengers ...that's a
lot of money ...will they declare it to the
tax man !!
I spent last summer travelling Canada for 3 months and it was an amazing experience (and I've been to Canada 4 times before). You'll have an amazing time!

there is a different culture out there when it comes to tipping and yes it can be hard to get used to. I think it can be a bit rude when people expect a tip however my brother owns a cafe on vancouver island and tipping is a way to show your appreciation of a good meal, etc.

thankfully as we were camping for the majority of the trip we didn't need to tip all that often.
Top tip ....don't feed the bears ....
Bumped into a few black bears and brown bear, while out on horse back for the day. In general they will not bother you ...unless they are spoilt bears and have been fed junk food by the tourists....Then they assoiciate humans with food....

Bears can run faster than a race horse over short distances ..but run out of puff quickly ..small lungs...

Black bears can climb trees
Brown bears cant in general ...they just try to dig the tree up...and then push it over ...
I would ferociously object, and definately not give a tip at all,
After all it's not mandatory.

I dont mind giving tips to waiters etc but I do object to giving tips to the tour guide and driver
after all its there job and they are getting a wage
Toronto - so huge, are you going to the CN tower, its amazingly high!
Ottawa - one of the most beautiful cities ever. architecture reminded me a bit of Edinburgh.
Niagra - amazing falls, take lots of money to waste on the arcades and amusements there. a very fun place to hang out. there's also a Wolfgang Puck restaurant thats worth a visit.
Oh and anywhere in the French part - don't expect bilingual signs, people, etc. its like stepping in to France.it was a bit disconcerting really!
oh and have fun!
