How do I get to the poorer countries and help the less fortunate kids?

I'm doing an early years degree, but I dont want to conform to the curriculum but I would love to teach. I could'nt teach my own kids at home through being a single mum and below the poverty threshold!!!! I want to befriend the less fortunate kids and make a difference to their lives. Why not? I know its achievable... I just need a pointer and hopefully my boys will experience it with me. Any ideas anyone?
