my phone is a long distance away from my pc, broadband is now available in my area so i want to switch over from dial up does this mean i have to run a long cable all the way up the stairs to connect pc to phone or is there a way around this? i got a second phone line installed when i got dial up so that my house line remained free hence the socket is right next to my pc any ideas?

the obvious answer is wireless !

most providers should now be selling wireless broadband kits - check their sites for details

eg

Not all types of broadband come through your phone line, alot come in like cable TV.
If you have a phone socket right next to your pc then you should be able to get adsl through that.
