garden lighting

I want to put some lighting in my garden to highlight certain borders and large planters and havnt got a clue how to go about it. theres no power in the garden but the garage at the end of the garden has got mains electricity.any ideas......? tried solar lights but they were too weak on brightness.

The first thing you need is a good sensitive circuit breaker, an essential for any gear being used out side, as to the actual lights and fittings any decent DIY shop or Electrical Factors should carry a selection of outside equipment,cables etc and most will be happy to explain the correct usage. If you live near a Wickes pop in and have a look thro the pamphlets they usually have about various projects they are normally pretty good, but what ever you decide remember electricity and water can be fatal
so if in doubt double check

The easiest thing to do is go for low voltage lighting, so you don't need any RCD's if you haven't got any in your garage which you should have due to it being outside of the equipetential zone (house), and also look in B&Q as they have an extensive range....

Wickes sell an weatherfroof outside double socket which has an RCD incorporated in it., for about �25. You can buy the materials but I would advise you get a qualified electrician to install.

Even easier than the low voltage lights already mentioned are the newer generation solar powered lights. Granted, even the newer ones aren't as bright as wired lights so it depends on what you expect or need. We have several (here in the U.S.) and we're quite ahppy with them...
