Hi, I have just been promoted at work and recieved a small pay rise! I have just recieived my first payslip and I do not appear to be paying any tax!!!!! I am a single parent working 28 hours p/w @6.35 p/h.... I recieve working tax credits, child benefit etc.....should I be paying tax on my earnings? I just really don't want to get murdered by a tax bill at the end of year!!!!! is there anyone I can ring for advice? Many thanks in advance.
I would expect you to pay tax on those earnings. There might be a dozen reasons why you didn't in April. Ask your employer's wages office, if they have one, and then phone the same tax office phone number they do.
Hi, It depends on a few things. Did you pay tax before you were promoted? When did you start work?
Having children won't affect how much tax you should pay.
You may find that now your pay has gone up you'll lose some tax credit.
My tax code is 503 LX [NI code A]. I didn't pay tax before.... 18 hrs p/w @5.52 ph. My tax credits have actually gone up, but I think this is due to a yearly rise.
Thanks again for your replies.
