vegan leather bags

okay I was browsing the ebags website (after I am a girl!!) and I saw a bag saying it was made from vegan leather, now I know I am probably a complete dope but isn't that a contradiction?!
or is it a posh term for PU?

Hi Chickadee, check out this site they have some lovely stuff and its all 'ethical' i.e. fair trade and vegan leather. The bags are gorgeous and will not disappoint you as they look like leather, but obviously don't smell like it!

perhaps they're made from vegans, maybe veggie burgers are made from veggies!
