Has anyone ever gone to get money out of an ATM and the money hasn't come out. This happened to me today. I was going for a meal after work and went to the nearest bank to get money out. I keyed everything in and once it finished it gave me back my card but no money came out.
I hope the money hasn't come out of my account!

It sounds like Nat West are right and that the confirmation of money withdrawal could only be confirmed by the actual Abbey branch balance. As this all happened so late in the day,you were maybe given deliberately unhelpful info there! Check your balance tomorrow and if you're lucky like me it'll be ok.If not, contact the Abbey branch on Monday and ask to speak to a supervisor from the outset.
I had an embarrassing incident in Waterstones with my debit card a few years ago. My card wouldn't go through the till so I went to Nat West who informed me that my card had been cancelled and I was being sent the PIN card. I was never advised that my card was being cancelled and the new card took 10 working days to arrive!!!
I wrote a long letter of complaint but never got a reply! No surprise there then.

Oh dear:-( Sounds typical though!! You have to def speak in person to get anything done. In a small local branch of my bank,Northern N.I.when they were trying to put all those quarterly charges onto my account, for going over 2.43 and I'd immeadiately then credited the same account with 10 (all happened on the same day when i realised my mistake)I just asked to speak to the manager! Politely explained how long i had been an "in the blue" customer with their bank, and that if they went ahead and practically "stole" money from my account with bank charges for the next 3 months,i would be closing the same account. Common sense prevailed, the charges were waived and I kept the account!...

Basically the way to handle it is to go to the customer services counter at your branch, and fill out an ATM Malfunction form. You'll need the location of the atm, and the time of the transaction. They will then contact the other bank and claim your money back.
In my case it was back in my account in 24 hours.

I did get a mini statement when I went to Nat West afterwards. I withdrew money from the Nat West atm and then got a statement which said I had withdrawn money out, however it didn't say where from.
I will continue checking though.
Thank you everyone including Mr Hitler. Who do you think you are kidding? ;-)
