basset hound

Hi i'm getting a basset hound this summer.I'v heard that they are stuburn. Is it true? I just love them i'm getting it anyways. Can someone with a basset expireance can tell me what kind of a pet are they? I want to know all about them. It will be helpfull to me to look after the pup

While I was waiting to get my pup which isn't a basset but I got a book on the breed and read everything I could about it. When I finally picked her up, I fealt more confident in what to do. Good Luck with yours.

Generally, they are pack animals and will try to work their way to the top of the pack i.e. above you! They have what might be described as 'stubborn disobedience' and you have to be very firm when they are young or they will think they are the boss. At the same time, you must not be 'heavy handed' or they will not co-operate. They also have a very deep loud bark, which might not impress your neighbours at 4 am.

As Maggie said, get books on the breed and I would also suggest you visit several breeders and find out as much as you can about their dogs.

they are great around children. my grandson (3 years old) and my basset are great frends. i will tell you one thing, they are like extendable ladders and can nick food from any where. they are so loving and funny. they are a fab pet . they have a charm all of there own. if you go into you tube and put basset hound in there is some great videos of them
