TV DVDs

Why do DVDs of television programmes (or programs, please also tell me which I mean) cost so much? They can't cost as much as films to make, and even whenever they are on sale they still don't cost as little as other sale items, despite the fact that the DVDs might have been out for yonks. Carry On films cost very little all the time, I think about �13, Sale DVDs sometimes come to �5.99, but on the rare occasions you see TV stuff on sale it never goes for less that �9.99, even with the crappy lack of special features you get. God, I'm a miser.

If you wait for the full season box sets, then per disc they aren't that expensive. If you wait a bit longer until the sales they get even cheaper. For example, the "24" sets get released at around �50 for the set (about �8/disc). I've seen them in sales for �30 (�5/disc). The exception to this is the "Farscape" sets at �100/Season :-(. (Though I managed to get Season 1 for �40 :-) ).

and i am guessing:

films are generally more popular than tv programmes(when released as dvds) so for the tv company to try and make enough to live on, they must charge slightly more.

if more people bought tv programmes on dvd then i suppose the prices would drop.
