'Cats' are certainly available for diesel engines, though I don't know how common it is to have them fitted in cars. Nearly all (if not all) petrol cars have them fitted in Europe now. My old truck had one fitted to overcome the particulate emission limit and so save me 500 on my Road Tax. However, the government has now changed the rules and to get the Reduced Pollution Certificate (RPC) to save you 500 a year, you now have to have a particulate trap fitted. As this costs about 3500, its not worth it.
Hmm, catalytic converters, diesel engines, - where to put it? I know, travel!
