Can I use a Braun electric kettle 1500 watts purchased from Canada with just a plug adapter or do I need a voltage transformer as well?

Unless it is a travel kettle that automatically detects the voltage You'd need a transformer as well.

Check on the underside and it will say what the required input voltage range is.
A quick google tells me that the cost of a suitable transformer is such that you could probably afford to buy 3 or 4 replacement kettles for the same price...
agree with rojash

also ... if you do ever go back to canada .... don't refer to them as american ... not wise
