It's sung by Roberta Flack. the song was written by Ewan McColl for his wife Peggy Seeger. With parents who write that well, it's no wonder Kirsty McColl was such a good writer of pop songs herself.

Hi Andy, of course you wouldn't remember, since you are nice to everyone as a matter of course!  This was about 2 years ago, when the AB allowed much more personal chats.  In one thread I revealed myself to be a Yankee, and about a dozen other users immediately pounced on me and attacked me... which was hurtful since I am not a "bad" person, and I am peace-loving.  But you, and one other user, were polite and even friendly.  I gained a lot of respect for you that day!!  The world needs more people like you!  :-)
