English bank account abroad

Is it possible to open an English Bank/building society account whilst not living in the country, as they usually want a utility bill which would not be possible.

You have not said where abroad. You can open a Halifax account in Spain - don't know if its the same for other countries.

Sorry, I meant can you open an account in England, whilst being a Spanish Resident, reason being you can get more interest in the U.K. than in a Spanish Bank.

I work for Lloydstsb im sure if you go to the web site and look for internation or overseas banking you should be able to. why do you need to open now? if you wait till you get here with just your passport (as long as its an eu one) you can open an account no problems no address proof needed.
