The university entrance requirements will vary but, as a minimum, you'd need at least 5 (A to C grade) GCSEs including Maths, English and some Science content plus at least 2 A-levels (possibly including Biology).

HI, i am a student midwife, training in northanmpton.
Competition is so fierce i would recomend you have the best you can possibly get!
Minimum requirements are, nvq3 in care, plus maths and english and sometimes science subject too grade c or above. or the a level option which im not familiar with sorry.
But you reall really should have a good history of working in a caring environment.
Not elderly or mental health, more womens health or childrens.
Honestly you are talking of approx 32 places a year and around 500 applications each year! You need to really be the best of the best!!
Or you could do the nursing route first, study adult or childrens nursing which is fairly easy to get into and then do an additional 18 month course in midwifery.
It has got to be the most amazing job and priviledge in the world, which is why you have to be fantastic in so many ways to get a uni place... i was lucky i worked my way up since 18 yrs old and was a team leader in social care plus had the gcse's and nvq3 in social care, along with working as a gynae care assistant.
Get a job at your local hospital and go from there, its what they want when looking at candidates, not someone who just has pieces of paper and says i was born to be a midwife, its a miracle...... GOOD LUCK!
Be competetant and dont give up!!! xx sheri xx
