Hi, i just got 2 japanese maple trees delivered, they are about a foot high and i'm going to plant them in a large trough planter (about 2 foot deep and 10 food wide). i'm wondering how long it will take to grow to 6-8 foot? i'm guessing years but how many? Also, if we move house in 5 years time can i dig it up and take it with me?!! Annie x

depends which variety you have. There are over 400!!
As hawkwalk states depends on the variety you've got. I've got a japanese maple grafted on to a dwarfing rootstock and it's only 2 foot high at 10 years old!
With care you can remove them from a container to take them with you when you move.
