Bike Theft2

Obviously I have had to call the police in. Not because of the value of the bike - it was a couple of years old and only from halfords! I know bikes get stolen all the time. I had to get the Police in because it looks to me very much like either an opprtunist thief has come into the block for a scout round and stolen the bike on spec, or becuase somebody has tipped off the thieves that thwere was a bike which could be lifted out of the block. Maybe I am being suspicious but the time and the ways it was done (You wuold need a vanor estate car to get the bike away from the apartments as it is a big framed ladies bke) I feel this was a pre-planned theft.
We do have CCTV but the cameras don't all work and although they may have caught the bike being taken out of the front gate I do not not know if the CCTV is recorded off site (waiting for the landlords to get back to me) or whether it is down to the tennants to record it via our own TVs.
The police have takenthe matter seriously, and came straight round as the thieves gained entry into the building rather than stealing a bike from outside (there are plenty chained up outside too).
I am concerned that somebody knows that the apartments can be easily got into. I have phoned the landlords (they own and rent out all the flats) and they are trying to find out why the front door wasn't mended properly.
There is a light out in our corridor, the front door doesn't work (it was reported and looked at last week and not repaired properly) and the CCTV is a foggy issue. In short, I feel security has been compromised by the landlords and I am now one uinsured bike down!
The Police BTW were very quick and dealt with the issue very thoroughly, which was good!
I'm just concerend that the thieves may come back, now they know the area isn't very secure. Is there anything I can do to help the situation? I've put up a couple of notices warning tennants to bring their bikes etc indoors and

I dont think there's anything more that you can do other than what you've already done. It must have been very frustrating for you, though I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for someone to be arrested for it.

If you get another bike is there anyway you can take it into your flat to safeguard it happening again?

Can you not arrange to change the locks on the main door for more secure ones yourself? I understand it's not your responsibility, but if I was in your position, I'd pay for my own peace of mind.

You can buy a buld and fit it yourself, they're only about �1 from your supermarket

You could arrange for a deaklock to be fitted to your personal door, so even if they do come back, it's makes it all the more difficult for the theives to get in to your place.

It's maybe worth looking into approaching your landlords and mentioning a breach of contract? Surely when you agreed to pay them a sum of money every month to stay there, they also signed up for maintaining the property?
