My daughter is getting married at the end of August (yippee!! I get my bathroom back!)
An ex boyfriend has said that he intends to turn up and might have something to say during the ceremony. This is obviously upsetting my daughter.
If he turns up do we have to let him into the church? I seem to recall from many years ago that barring him may not be legal and, indeed, the marriage itself will not be legal, but there have been changes in legislation in the intervening years.
Can you help me put her mind at rest, please?

You cannot bar anyone from a church. Anybody is allowed to go to weddings, funerals etc. Chances are he's bluffing and he's all mouth and no trousers. Although if he has something to say as to why they shouldnt get married that is the truth maybe they shouldnt be married, after all that is why they ask the congregation

Sorry, you can't risk letting him ruin the day. How many weddings do you know where people can come in off the street and attend? and what will he have to say - something insulting probably.....
IF he turns up, he should be dealt with BEFORE he gets a chance to ruin it. A few well chosen male guests can be intimidating and stop him just by their presence. let alone anything else.

This low-life tried to strangle my daughter and objected when she reported the matter to the police and dumped him.
He sees nothing wrong in his actions. The police have had a chat with him after that event and told him to stay away from her.
One of the guests is a serving police officer and looked him up on the PNC. Although he won't tell us what the record says he did say that he wouldn't want any daughter of his to even meet him.
Thanks for all the replies so far. Food for thought - especially the pepper spray!!
