Eurovision

I didn't watch it last night. In fact the last time I watched it was when Greece won a few years ago. I was on holiday in Crete at the time with my friend and didn't really have a choice in the matter. I suppose I could have just gone back to the hotel and gone to bed but I didn't. Silly me!
Anyway, why does Great Britain put itself through this embarrassment each year when everybody knows the odds are stacked against us? Even Wogan has expressed that he may quit!

"Big Four"
From 2000 onwards, four particular countries would always qualify for the Eurovision final, regardless of their positions on the scoreboard in previous Contests.[32] They earned this special status by being the four biggest financial contributors to the EBU (without which the production of the Eurovision Song Contest would not be possible). These countries are Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom. Due to their "untouchable" status in the Contest, these countries became known as the "Big Four".

Ummmm when did Russia join Europe? News to me.
Why is it called a song for Europe? You hear it once and thats it. You never hear it again.
The whole thing is pointless.
I think wierd, wacky, tacky songs by which ever numpty thinks he/she can sing contest would be better.
Or and exersise in sourgrape voting contest should be considered.

ive got a post going on music topic for this, i think myself that the big four should pull the plug on this as it now should be renamed the eastern european song contest, spains might have been dire but it made me laugh and (cowers slightly) i found myself singing along to latvias entry. i still love the swiss entry from last year it should have been in the final...(goes off singing ..vampires are alive..)
I think its time to knock it on the head, after all we knew who was going to win before they even sang the songs, that is how political it has gotton.
I dont blame terry wogan for wanting to quit, its a joke when you can predict accurately who will vote for who when you have not even heard the song, it goes to prove that the whole song part of it is totally pointless.
bbc fund a large portion of eurovision, I think its time they pulled out and left eastern europe to it
