My friend is currently in a private rented home and is moving out in a few weeks as her landlord is selling up. She is on the council list and waiting for a property. She has seen a house that has been boarded up and has been this way for over a year now and wanted to know if she asked the council if she could move in there what are the rules on that?
lol i would have thought the person who owns it would have something to say about that!
if it's a cuncil house it's probably boarded up for a reason, plus she will get a place that is 1)suitable for her needs (appropriate to the size of her family) and b)when she has enough points to be a priority
points wise she would have to be in band A and classed as in urgent need of a move.
she would have to satisfy the criteria for a house, if she does then its down to a computerised system that will let the properties in order of who is more needy, people from the disabled register and people who are homeless will take priority.
If the property is not ready this is normally down to budgeting problems. the property may need a lot of work doing that the council cannot afford presently.
is she entitled to a house? and where is she on the housing list?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha .......
Sorry , not making light of your friends predicament , but no use her even trying to ask . If she is renting privately she may want to look to rent privately again , otherwise , if she is actually homeless through no fault of her own she may qualify for emergency housing with a Housing Association
xxx.
Bednobs- the person who owns it is the council- and she wants to know what they have to say about it- thats why im asking!!
cazzz1975- im not sure where she is on the list, but her sister found a house that was the same situation- hadnt been lived in for over a year and was just sitting there so the council let her have it.
her sister is very lucky, with the massive amount of asylum seekers and the lack of social housing the council has really tightened up its allocation process, she can always ask of course but she shouldnt expect too much.
there are people living in appaullng unsuitable housing all over the country who are desperate to live in a house. It would be almost considered jumping the queue
so she's already asked - that makes sense, but why dosen't she just wait for a reply, it would make more sense tha asking people who know nothing about her situation
i'm sorry i had no idea how you can tell a place is council owned just by looking at it!
As said above, there will be a reason it is boarded up and these can be many and various. Not just to keep squatters/arsenists out.
Perhaps someone was murdered there, or a junky overdosed. Maybe it is infested with vermin or insects, or maybe it has high levels of asbestos, or is generally structurally unstable.
In any event the inside is quite likely to be so delapidated that it would take a lot of (council) money to make it haboitable again.
bednobs- Your right you clearly know nothing about it- and do you not think its a bit obvious she found out who owns it before asking the council if she can move in! Maybe you should stick to the easier questions where thinking isnt involoved!
cazzz1975- Thats true- thats why she cant understand why its been empty so long. Her family live in the same road and have never even seen anyone to come and do an inspection or anything on it- so it is just rotting away!
It is worth asking tho as its a nice area and nice house..
well since you implied in your question that she hadn't actually asked the council (by saying "IF she asked the council .....") is it any wonder i din't realise she had asked them? Have no idea why you are being so nasty to me, denegrating my cerebral ability though lol
beck 07 you cannot possibly jump the queue for housing in this way, whether the house is boarded up or not means nothing, there is a reason for this, the only advice I can give is that your friend should be in touch with the council on a daily basis so that they get so fed up with her/him and finally shut them up by providing them with a house, which will probably be in an area which is very unsuitable.
