recording from a video camera

Please can anyone help me? I want to make a tape from a video camera. my video camera is about 7 years old, but my tv and video ( Phillips) are only 2-3 years old. My video has 2 scart sockets, av1 which is connected to the tv; and av2. There are 2 scart plugs in the tv, one is connected to the freeview box and the other to the video recorder. I can get the picture on the tv, but the video recorder refuses to record it!!!

hubby says you want your camera into av2 on the video. Then switch the video to av2 if it doesnt do it automatically and then record
