Only half my Acer tree has flowered. Some branches have lovely deep red leaves and other branches are completely bald. Any ideas?

This can happen with Acers. The bare bits are probably dead - scratch with finger nail, and if no green then they are, so cut them away. Unfortunately this can leave the tree a bit lop-sided, so you may want to balance up by pruning live parts. You should get good new growth. In future, give them a bit of water during dry periods, and a mulch is always a good idea.
