Small example from the other day - I went to Buxton market, and was generally looking round. Saw a tray of beautiful large oranges. They were 26p each or something, so I jokingly said that was too much. The guy asked how much I thought they were worth. I said - "To me - nothing??" looking down at the one in my hand. "Go on then!" the guy said. "Let me know what you think and come back and buy a dozen!"
I don't usually haggle I must say , but I did do rather well on my leather sofa . It was on show for half price , down from nearly 600 to 299 . I asked initially what was the best price they could do it for ., that got it down to 240 . I then asked to sit on it and have a good look at it and said I really wanted that one. When I first saw it I noticed a scratch on the base at the back so was aiming on getting it down in price and then pointing that out to get more off. In the end , to cut this shorter ...lol...I asked for the manager and got the sofa for a cool 50 . xxxxx
Lol sandrajo - the only time I've ever sold anything was when I helped out in a friend's petrol station for half a day. Oil was selling very slowly, so I was asked to try and shift as many large tins as possible. I asked everyone who came in, telling them that I needed the bonus if i reached my target. By the end of my "shift", I'd sold 23 cans!!! My friend offered me a permanent job!!!!
I used to work in a petrol station when I was at college. Between the years of 1979 and 1984. I was only 16 when I started ,,,illegal I know !
I earned more money in one day , than I have only recently beaten in the past couple of years. Me and the forecourt manager had so many fiddle going , I could not kep track of them all ...oh the happy days

yup - trick is to do your homework. when i recently purchased a spangly new tv, i went to a local retailer and told them i really wanted to buy a new tv off them, but could get an almost identical model from currys for 100 less. when they offered it me at the same price, i turned round and said not good enough - if you don't actually offer me a discount of some sort, i'll take my cash elsewhere. they quickly dropped the price by another 75 and chucked in free hd cables etc to boot. you have to stick to your guns, offer cash and threaten to spend elsewhere. they soon start chucking discounts at you!
I'm rubbish at it. Mostly, it doesn't occur to me that I might be able to haggle. My boyfriend, however, is the tightest man on earth and would haggle in Tesco if he could get away with it.
I did used to work in a jewellers, though, and I know they'll give discount if it's asked for-which it rarely was! :)
