Dishwasher smell
8 Answers
We have a Bosch dishwasher which is well used. Up until last week, it's been excellent but now, every time we use it, the kitchen smells of fish midway through it's cycle.
It's plumbed into the sink waste and that doesn't smell. I've tried neat bleech, zoflora and jeyes fluid...as well as caustic soda down the sink but we still get the smell.
Any suggestions what can be causing it ?....if anyone has smelt the air inside a car tyre, it smells like that and does anyone know of a product that will "sort it"
Many thanks

I chuck washing soda down the sink waste .I can't understand the fishy smell though .I once had a fishy smell in the kitchen and searched and cleaned high and low only to find it was to do with the electrics ..it was a plug melting out inside .Have a check round just in case .
hammerman,
When you take the trap off to clean it also see about removing and cleaning the drain hose as all sorts of horrible gunk can start to build up in the hose too. the drain hose is only fixed to the pump with either a jubilee clip or a spring clip and can usually accessed from underneath by tilting the machine back 45 degrees, remember to disconnect from the mains and be prepared for a little water to come out even if the dishwasher is empty.
Be prepared to gag a bit, it's a horrible job!!

I'll go with shaneystar on this one. Put some vinegar in the dispenser where you normally put your dishwasher tablet & then run a normal wash, with the dishwasher empty. That should cure it. Also, have a look where the door meets the body of the dishwasher - sometimes you'll get a load of slime & gunk there (just wipe it off). If you do the vinegar thing regularly, as shaneystar says, it keeps the dishwasher fresh & clean & is a lot cheaper than the cleaner you buy specially for them.
