Why is it when we all know we are going to die at some stage, most people never come to terms with it? You would have thought that over the years we would have evolved to make sense of it all and accept it?

well I know what you mean sweetie, although we all know its inevitable its still a very scary thought, my dad was talking about his fear (he is in his 60s ) to him mom who passed away a few months ago, she was in her 90s and she was not phased, in fact she said she welcomed it!

It could be as we get older our aspects change somewhat, maybe we become more accepting? At my age now I fear it but I would imagine a lot of people fear it, its the idea of going from existing, living and breathing to nothing!

Im hoping in time I become more accepting of it!

Says it all sweetie

My death waits like an old Druid
so confident I'll go his way
whistle to him
and the passing time...
my death waits like a bible truth
at the funeral of my youth
weep loud for that -
and the passing time..
my death waits like
a witch at night
as surely as our love is bright
let's not think about the passing time

But whatever lies behind the door
there is nothing much to do...
angel or devil, I don't care
for in front of that door...
there is you.

My death waits like a beggar blind
who sees the world through an unlit mind
throw him a dime
for the passing time...
my death waits there between your thighs,
your cool fingers will close my eyes
lets think of that and the passing time
my death waits to allow my friends
a few good times befor it ends so

let's drink to that and
the passing time..but what ever lies behind the door,
there is nothing much to do
angel or devil i dont care
for in front of that door.. there is you
my death waits there among the leaves
in magicians mysterious sleeves
rabbits and dogs and the passing time
my death waits there among the flowers
where the blackest shadow, blackest shadow cowers
lets pick lilacs for the passing time
my death waits there,in a double bed
sails of oblivion at my head
so pull up the sheets against the passing time
but whatever lies behind the door
there is nothing much to do
angel or devil....i dont care
for in front of that door
there is.......................you
thank you.
his not him (typo)

My Dad died when I was only 6 and he was 34. His cause of death was recorded as "unknown". Now I am in my 30's I have this total fear of dropping dead!!
If you are worried sweetie, why not have a health check up to make sure everything is okay, sudden death can be caused by a heart problem that can be easily detected via an ECG
Deaths just another journey sweetie dont worry its gonna happen anyway
My dad died in his early 40's,I am 40 in 3 weeks time and have the same condition that caused his death. I am not frightened of dying, but the manner of death itself is going to be horrible due to my condition. I have accepted that I am going to die earlier than most but my family are the ones I feel for as they have to deal with the aftermath. I haven't told my 10 year old but his older sisters know. I should have a few years left yet and i'm doing my best to eat healthily and exercise as much as I can to try and delay the inevitable.
Eat 5 fruit and/or veg a day
Eat fibre rich food
Don't smoke
Drink lots of water
Moderate your booze
Take regular (not too strenuous) exercise
Be happy
Watch you weight
Hold back on NOTHING. But if it is bad just take it in moderation.

And you will live till 90 odd, trust me.
Though I am still well and truly alive I have been at what I thought was the moment of my last struggle to breathe , thought I couldn't take another , and I must say it does cross your mind that it is the end and that's the way you must go , just upsetting if you see it coming and think of loved ones you haven't said goodbye to.

Thanks Cazz, I think I will do that as it will help to put my mind at rest!

I just think that life is a funny old game! When we hear somebody has died, even if we don't know them, it affects us all in some way. But this is the only thing in any of our lives that is certain (apart from taxes!!) so why are we always so upset!!

Daffy - Sorry to hear that you sound very brave!
Yes, even people without religious faith talk glibly of the departed being "at peace" "at rest" etc.

If there is no afterlife, if you just plain STOP, then there is no peace, because there has to be something of you to know that it is peaceful after all. I have long believed that the human being has an innate fear of annihilation, of ceasing to exist, entirely, nothingness. Give it a 5 minute whirl, close your eyes, lean back in a comfy chair, and imagining not existing in any way at all - except in memories - but what is the use if you are not around to enjoy them?
No fear. I will come back with another username.
Maybe RavenTheRandy or

Hi Sweetie77,

I think that it very much depends on personal circumstance. I know that may sound a bit silly, but think that if you have lived a long and happy life you may come to terms with it more readily than if you are diagnosed with a life threatening illness.

My mum passed away in October 05, I know that she was not 'ready' and it broke my heart. Whilst she was in her 70s and suffered from ill health for a long time she was young at heart, mentally agile and sound, and we thought that she was invincible. She always bounced back. Anyway, it was a terrible shock when she died.
