whats thew difference between an unltrasonic lense and a normal lense?

Ultrasonic are auto focus, using a small motor to drive the focusing ring
Ultrasonic (USM) refers to motor type for an autofocus lens rather than electromagnetic motor. This type (USM) of motor produces higher torque than a similar-sized conventional electromagnetic motor, and realizes smaller dimensions for the same amount of torque. Major features of ultrasonic motors include and absence of gears, highly precise operation and low noise. Smaller quieter and more precise operation.
Perhaps the spelling ie:lens: lense !!
