Most people will secure a mortgage offer in principal before they begin looking for a house.
In your case you have accepted an offer that is not proceedable due to the fact that they have not secured the funds to purchase your property. You have not really sold your house and would perhaps be better off leaving it on the market.

I had time wasters when I sold my house. Unfortuntely both were lead on by brokers. I wasted so much time. After two buyers who never got their offers I made sure the next one was using a bank direct. No problem. OK it was 2 years ago but I asked the estate agency to check for me for proof of offer and that they had a deposit as well. It was such a stressful time. If I could turn back the clock I would of given up with the first one after 6-8 weeks. I gave her about 3 months. The next one the estate agency told me to pull the plus on him after about 6 or 8 weeks. Can't remember to be exact but it was no more than 8 weeks.
