How d'you switch off the automatic date in Word?
When you're writing a letter in Word for Windows, and start writing the date, it invariably "fills" it in for you using its own preferred format. HOW does one stop the confounded thing from "helping" in this way?

Perhaps the method varies with different versions of Word? I'm using Word 2002. Here's a screen shot of what I see when I click the 'Smart Tags' tab:

You can clearly see the 'Dates' line (which I've removed the tick from). Even if your screen is slightly different, the setting should be in there somewhere.

Thanks weeal. Done exactly that. Now when I type
June 3, 2008 it automatically adds
2008-6-3
There are many options, such as 03 June 2008 and 3 June 2008, but NOT June 3, 2008
I have unchecked the 'update automatically' box but nothing has changed. I appear to be having the same problem as aquilotta. Grrrrrrrrr
