hi, im single, and have recently met a young lady that takes my fancy, but shes my grandads brothers granddaughter - is that ok / allowed etc? or is it too close a family member to date

Its not illegal so entirely up to you, I just wouldnt date anyone I was related too as even if cousins are legal I know somewhere down the line they have same blood

You are permitted to have relationships with cousins or beyond. This young lady is a more distant cousin (second, half, removed or something) and there is no bar on such a relationship. Good luck to you both.

second cousin... that's legal and not so close that people will raise their eyebrows, if that's what you're worried about.

That's something like '2nd cousin once removed' so as 4get says it's not illegal, but,again as 4get says, I wouldn't.

Did youb grow up knowing she's related? I mean, are you a close family who get together often? If you've known your related since you were kids and grew up together that may cause problems and friction within your families, in fact your relationship may cause you both to re-evaluate your family dynamics anyway. There was a report on Radio 4 last week about this subject and several couples in the same situation as you no longer have anything to do with their immediate families so be prepared.
