How good is Purina Pro Plan 'Delicate'?!

Hey all, hope some one can help!

My Cefa, seems to be intollerant or have problems with food! She is absolutely fine in herself, although a little skinny as everything goes straight through her.
We have been to the vets, who said tr chicken & rice, which we did, and she was fine, until we went back to cat food, and then it started again! We have tried many different cat foods, Iams, Whiskas, Go cat (we only feed the cats dry food) are just a few, but its always the same.

We have now bought Purina Pro Plan Delicate, as we now think a special delicate food is the way forward.

Main question is, is this kinda of delicate food a good all round cat food for cats who can eat normal food?

Is there another one that you know of that is better?

We would keep her on chicken and rice, but we have 7 cats in total, so that is just not possible, as she would always have access to the other cats food aswell, meaning it would be pretty pointless!

we had a cat a when we were first married that was always very loose our old vet said that cat foods dont have enough fibre in as in the wild they eat the skins bones the lot so he told us to mix in around of wholemeal bread with his meat ever since we have done this a round of bread for each cat with their meat then they have biscuits at night we are down to 6 cats now we did have 12 at one stage so i know what you mean about trying to feed one on its own

And Im glad someone gets where Im coming from with not being able to feed one one thing and the others another thing!
She also is hit & miss with the litter tray, which as you can imagine, is not pleasant, as I seem to spend my days checking she hasnt been to the loo anywhere!

I cant see the bread thing working, as with dry food they would eat around it :-(

I'm just hoping that a delicate kind of food, is ok for the other cats, because I dont think there is any other way round it, and I dont want her to have to be ill or the rest of her life! She is only 15 months old. :-(

The other type of food should be fine for everyone else because otherwise you wouldn't be able to feed it exclusively long term to a cat with a problem. But won't it start to get kind of expensive?
You could try the weight loss diets that have more fibre in them or perhaps the ones for hairball prevention because they have extra fibre that is supposed to help the ingested fur along the tract & out the usual way rather than becoming lodged as furballs &/or being sicked back.
I'm guessing that you went for the allergy test? Anyway, you may find that she's allergic to wheat or dairy & perhaps an allergy type diet might work since these are the first ingredients excluded? Like a chicken & rice version of a 'normal' brand.
My friend has a Tonkinese that she always suspected was 'delicate' because she (the cat) threw up a lot but we have found that it has more to do with her fur moulting & not the food she's fed!
When we had a horse similarly affected we were told to try probiotics which may work for your cat & could be given in a single dose each day. There are purpose made ones for cats but you could try a human drink version? Live yogurt is also recomended for a similar reason, but not if she's sensitive to dairy. These are the cheap & cheerful to try out ideas! Hope one of these helps - x.

We havent had allergy tests done, as everytime we have been to the vets, they say just put her on chicken & rice, which works when shes on it, but as soon as we go back to cat food, she gets 'the runs' again!

we have had all 7 cats on chicken and rice for 2/3 weeks at a time before, and its hard work!
We have tried many cat foods, but she is the same with all of them.

I dont mind if its expensive, I just want her to be well! She is very much my baby.
And with 7 cats and 2 dogs, we understand that for all of them to be in perfect health would be extremely lucky.

Surely, if she has the runs all the time giving her more fibre is the last thing we want to do!?

hi wiggal the fibre bulks out the poo i mash the bread with a little warm water then mash the meat in with it the probiotics is also worth a try we used to give our old dog some probiotic yogurt every day to keep her tum in order good luck i know what its like never being sure where you might find she has had an accident what is she like with dog food i dont think that has got so much protein in it so she might tolorate that
