Scenario. 2 lanes at traffic lights, one is marked for straight ahead, the other is for left turn. There is no filter light , just one set of traffic lights. If a motorist uses the right hand lane but goes straight on, what offence could he be charged with

Whether they would use it in a case like this I don't know.
I think it is used mostly to deal with the cheats who pull off the busy motorway onto a sliproad to rejoin further up the queue.
