I have an ongoing problem with my R registered Rover 114 which will not start in wet/damp weather. I have changed the plugs, leads and distributor cap and this has made no difference. Occasionaly I can jump start it and then it will run fine all day but sometimes I just can't get it started at all. I have taken it to a specialist Rover garage and they have tested the control panel (found a fault) and fixed it but this did not fix the problem. The car is actually back in this garage now but I don't hold out much hope as they have had it in and out 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Has anyone any ideas at all. Other than this the car seems great and I haven't had it very long and can't afford another so it seems I'm stuck with it!!

I had one of these cars...sold it after less than a year for less than half what I paid after spending hundreds on repairs!

I had problems with cold starting, and stalling at the first junction.  I replaced plugs, etc. like you say, to no avail.  The garage said it was the ECU - an expensive job, but luckily done under warranty.  You say they fixed the ECU, but you never know with these cars.  Problems like yours are why they're so cheap these days - nobody wants 'em!

The car seems great?  I know the feeling.  Like **** off a stick, but only when they want to.
