chuckfickens thanks. if i click on start then computer,it shows removable disk(E). if i then click on that,it tells me to insert a disk even tho one is inserted????

ok firstly no need to start a new thread each time, just post an answer to your own question else it gets very confussing (and some people will get really wound up with you)

I take it you have tried it with several different disks? and have reset the computer?

just shut it down, turn it off and back on again

hmmm, how old is the computer? and is it a laptop or a desktop computer?

laptop.about 18 months old!

you could try cleaning the lens, when you open the drive you can see the lens, use a cotton wool bud and something like pure alcohol and VERY GENTLY clean the lens

any fairly pure alcohol, medicinal or rubbing alcohol is best, vodka at a push,

If your unsure get a normal CD drive cleaning kit, you can get them from most music shops pretty cheap and then you can do all the CD drives in your house (ones in your stereo, car etc)
